FOOD FOR FINES Program - Garden City Public Library has their FOOD FOR FINES Program underway, and will continue to accept donations until close at 8:00 pm on MONDAY, MAY 2ND. You too can help support Our H.O.M.E. Pantry and dissolve your fines at the same time! For each can donated the Library will waive $1 in overdue fines. If spring cleaning is on your list in the next two weeks, take a peak in the cupboards and see if you have any non-perishables that could assist with this program and drop them off at the Library circulation desk. Here is why our patrons are the best: So far the Library has delivered 173 lbs of food to Our H.O.M.E. Pantry on behalf of the FOOD FOR FINES Program! That averages to nearly 30 individuals having a full day of hearty meals (about 6 lbs./person) that otherwise may not have been available. Thank you to those who have already participated, let's keep up the wonderful work! We would like to personally thank Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeast Michigan for the opportunity to participate in this program, while allowing us to directly donate to Our H.O.M.E. Pantry.

Nerd Night: Dark Souls - Learn from the best, converse with other gamers on strategy, explore the gameplay and history of the action role-playing video game series Dark Souls with local gamer aficionado, Gabe Kleinert on Monday, May 9th, at 6:00pm. Topics of discussion for the evening will include the game's story, its world design, its effect on other games and game culture, and what sets it apart from any other game in the world. Heard this game was difficult? Gabe will shed light on how this reputation is untrue and harmful to the gaming community. "When I first started playing Dark Souls, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. It's set a completely new standard for what a game can be, and as strange as it may sound, it's made me grow as a person by playing it. I hope I can introduce some new people to the series, and dispel the myth that it's 'too difficult' to get into." This event is open to patrons 14 years of age or older and will have Mountain Dew and Doritos provided. Please call to register for this event (734) 793-1830.
