Harry Potter Party - You read that right- the Garden City Public Library is hosting a Harry Potter party to celebrate the upcoming release of The Cursed Child. On Saturday, July 30th, from 2-4pm, the Library is gonna go all out magic. We'll have activities, crafts, snacks and so much more all centered around our favorite boy wizard. All ages will be welcome, we just ask that you register in advance. Can't wait to see you there!
Maker Monday- Olympics - The Garden City Public Library is excited and sad to announce our LAST Maker Monday. From 3-5pm on Monday, August 1st, drop in for Olympics! We'll be hosting a mini Olympics of our own, seeing who is the best at what activities we set out. It will be oodles of fun!
Adult SCI-FI Movie Month- Prometheus - On Monday, August 1st at 6:00pm, the Library will host SCI-FI Movie Month, beginning with PROMETHEUS. The year is 2089, humanoid aliens are present, an android with a fastidious personality accompanies two archaeologists in this precursor to Aliens. Free freshly made popcorn will be available during the movie. Prometheus is rated R and is for an adult audience. Future SCI-FI MOVIE MONTH dates are August 8th and August 15th.
Yoga on the Library Lawn – AUGUST EDITION - GCPL is bringing back YOGA on the Library Lawn for AUGUST! With the resounding success of July 5th, we have received donations from the Friends of the Library to sponsor 5 sessions in August! Join us any Tuesday in August at 6:00pm to open your mind while relaxing your body with a beginner’s Yoga class on the Library Lawn, being sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Ages 14+ are welcome to attend, a $2 donation to the Friends is suggested, but not required. Vince Spadacini will lead each class. (Mark the dates now! August 2, 9, 16, 23, & 30 @6:00 pm)
Adventure Club - Explore the world through stories, games and treats. Every other Thursday, join us from 3-4pm as we focus on what makes other continents special. We will be reading stories, playing games (and keeping our Summer Reading theme up!) as well as enjoying tasty treats. On Thursday, August 4th, we will be focusing on SOUTH AMERICA, specifically the country of BRAZIL. Registration is required so please sign up in advance at the Library.
Lego Club - Join the Garden City Public Library Lego Club in our brand new time! Kids ages 5 and up can join us at the library on Monday August 8th from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm to make their own Lego masterpieces. Legos will be provided. We will also have Lego books for you to look at (or checkout) to spark your imagination. No registration is necessary. Just drop on in.
Knit Night - On the second and third Wednesday of every month, the Friends of the Library host Knit Night for any and all interested in attending. Wednesday, August 10th and August 17th, come down to Knit Night, from 5:30-8:00pm. It's a BALL of fun and you'll be able to make some close KNIT friends so don't let the opportunity pass.
Crafty Weekenders: Where Crafty People Meet! - Join the Garden City Public Library as we share all of our craft-making materials with you on Saturday, August 13th! We will be emptying our craft shelves for your creative enjoyment. Stop in any time between 1:00 - 3:00 pm and see what inspires you. Bring your own projects or start a new piece. The creative opportunity is endless! Patrons 14 and older are welcome to drop in. Light snacks will be provided. This is a FREE Public Event Series. Crafty Weekenders will continue on the following Saturdays from 1:00 - 3:00pm: 8/13 and 8/27.
Stress Buster Adult Coloring Night - Come one, come all, stressed adults, we hear your call! Wednesday, August 17th at 6pm drop in the Library to relax at our Stress Buster Adult Coloring Night! There will be a multitude of coloring sheets provided, as well as crayons, markers and other materials. You can also bring your own supplies. Now featuring new "Teacher Swears" coloring pages! Ages 14 +
Movie Showing: Zootopia - On Wednesday, August 17th from 3-5pm, the Garden City Public Library will be doing a special showing of Zootopia! Join Judy Hops and her reluctant companion, Nick Fox, as they try and solve the case of the disappearing mammals in the illustrious city of Zootopia. The movie is rated PG. All ages welcome!
